Delighting in the Journey

I like to think of myself as having an easygoing, type-A personality. I'm a list maker who can count on one hand the times I've crossed everything off of it. I fight the daily battle of deciding whether to organize and clean or play outside. I'm a seat-belt wearing, instruction reading, rule follower with a head full of dreams and plans of future adventures. At least that's what I'd like to believe about myself.

But sometimes I get so task-oriented, so list-focused, that I forget to take joy in each moment. My sweet friend, neighbor, and CM teammate, Anna Marie reminded me so kindly of my tendency this past week. She said so simply, "It's a journey not a job. Take delight in the process."

"It's a journey not a job."

These six words settled my soul and halted my anxious thoughts. I don't have to be perfect. There's no finish line I have to cross. I'm not waiting around to reach my final destination but walking down path that the God of the universe has mapped out for me and I will walk down it with a heart of thankfulness. Will there be struggles? Certainly. Will there be times when I'll have to lower my head and drive on? 100% yes. But Jesus tells me to make my home at his feet and take my joy from simply resting in the truth that he has set me free so that is what I'll do.
